Fr. Declan Shannon

Welcome to our new updated Parish Website.

We hope that you find it helpful in accessing information about our parish, the services we offer and how to access them.

As you can appreciate these are unusual times not just in our parish but in the world in general. Because of the restrictions in place to help curtail the spread of Covid19, many of the services we traditionally offer have been suspended for the moment in the interest of public health.

Our churches remain open every day; St. Mary’s Church is open from 9am to 5pm and Our Lady, Queen of Peace Church in Coosan is open from 9am to 7pm. Parishioners and visitors are welcome to our churches to spend a little time in prayer, light a candle or pick up a copy of our Sunday Missalette.

We continue to offer Mass every morning which is broadcast on Athlone Community Radio at 88.4FM or online at athlonecommunityradio.ie We broadcast Mass from Monday to Friday at 9:30am and on Saturdays and Sundays at 11:00am.

Any baptisms proceeding will be required to have no more than five people present namely the child, parents and godparents. Parents are welcome to postpone their child’s baptism for the interim if they so wish.

Funerals are restricted to no more than ten people ensuring that there is a physical distance of two metres between people of different households. The sign of peace and the distribution of Holy Communion are all suspended to protect the health of all present. We have live steaming from St. Mary’s Church affording people the opportunity to participate in a funeral Mass and offer their prayerful support online.

Our parish office remains closed but should parishioners wish to speak with a priest, you are welcome to ‘phone us our Parish Office on (090) 647 2088. While under the current guidelines, we are curtailed from visiting private homes, nursing homes and St. Vincent’s Hospital, we are however available should someone at the end of life need the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick once invited by the family or the health facility.

We continue to keep you, our parishioners and friends in our prayers and are heartened to know that so many of you are joining us each day at our radio broadcast Mass. We also express our thanks for the continuous support we are receiving from many of our parishioners who have chosen to continue to contribute to our Offertory Collection and Priests’ Dues either by dropping their contributions into the letter box of either St. Mary’s or Coosan Presbyteries or in the blue collection box in Our Lady, Queen of Peace Church in Coosan. Some have begun to make their contribution online.

Let us continue to take the advice of the HSE and follow the guidelines of our government to keep us all safe and well. We continue to pray for all who are sick, their families, those working in the caring and medical professions and those who provide essential services. While keeping proper physical distancing, let us remain ever united in prayer and support of each other confident that ‘God is with us always’
